Film City Coming Up at Kharghar
If plans and proposal are implemented effectively then the City & Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) will have a Film City ready in Kharghar. This is a joint venture by CIDCO and a builder firm. If all works well then phase1 of the plan will be complete by 2012.
The bid for the 100 hectare plot has been won for 1530 crores by Future City Properties Pvt. Ltd. Actor Lara Dutta presented plans for this Bollywood themed dream world for Future Cities which is a consortium of the Bhushan Steel Group, leading auto steel manufacturing company. Recreation in Kharghar will be having everything from adventure parks to fancy restaurant. It will even have luxury homes.
Other bidders were India Bulls Real Estate Ltd with Abu Dhabi based Center for Excellence for Applied Research and Training and GVK Developmental Projects Pvt Ltd with Hindustan Construction Company Real Estate.

The technical evaluation committee consisted of government officials, economists and technical presentations were rated by top officials of the corporate world.
Bid evaluation committee consisted of MADC Chairman RC Sinha, Director of Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research Dr Dilip Nachane, Urban planner and Town planning expert V K Phatak, SKIL MDDP Samant and General Atlantic MD Ranjit Pandit.
The film city project, a Bollywood theme park is taking about 60% of the land on the Pandav Kada hills. The other 40% is for commercial and residential sites. The project is designed on the model of Hollywood Hills and the estimated cost is Rs 7809 crores.
The first phase is to be completed by March 2013 the second phase by March 2016 and other amenities and commercial projects by March 31, 2014 and 2017 respectively. Property prices in Kharghar is also going high as the film city is coming up.
The theme based park will have film based rides, convention centers, amphitheaters, festive plaza, museums, shopping malls, hotels and restaurant etc. An average of 15000 people would visit the park, which is just about 2 kms away from the Kharghar station.
